There is a popular aphorism that goes thus, ‘the good/bad men do follows them and speak for them after death’, this is the case with a woman who is regarded by many Nigerians as a rear gem who died last year 2014, Dora Akunyili was not only fearless but diligent, even after her death, her good works speak for her.
In 1998, Dora Akunyili penned a letter to Gen Muhammadu Buhari when she was still the Zonal Secretary (South-east) of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund and details of that letter have come to the fore.
Akunyili had traveled to the United States to get a cancer treatment surgery.
It was gathered that Gen. Buhari, who was then as the PTF Chairman approved £17,100 for her medical treatment.
Pictured below is the 1999 letter from late Akunyili to Gen Buhari, thanking him for his approval and also letting him know that she was returning £12,000 of the £17,100 as doctors decided surgery was not needed:
On Akunyili’s letter returning money, Buhari wrote:
“See that there are still Nigerians with personal integrity. Please take action in line with PTF financial regulations”
What kind of woman do you think Dora Akunyili really was?
