Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has claimed teammate Lionel Messi is better than arc rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Uruguayan sided with the Barca number 10’s innate qualities over the workmanlike Madrid star, who edged out Messi to the Ballon d’Or in December.
“Messi is natural, it is his character. He is the best in the world,” Suarez told prestigious Algerian football magazine Le Buteur, “but he was born with his qualities.
“Ronaldo has progressed and worked a lot to perform how he does. He’s not at the same level he was when he started.
“I think Leo is the best.”
However, Ronaldo is the reigning Ballon d’Or winner and has scooped the gong, given to the best player in the world voted by coaches, players and journalists, for the last two years.
Suarez meanwhile, is enjoying his first season in Barcelona after leaving behind, the Premier League and Liverpool. Nonetheless, the 28-year-old forward was effusive in his praise for the Reds and thankful for his time at Anfield:
“With everything that I learned technically and tactically… I would say Liverpool gave me everything, it’s an extroardinary club.
“In England every game is important and the fans are formidable. At Barcelona it’s a bit different. I try to enjoy myself and towin every time I set foot on the pitch.”
