Nigerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adeshina, on Thursday, emerged the winner of the election for the President of the African Development Bank, AfDB. The other contenders were
Sufian Ahmed (Ethiopia), Jaloul Ayed (Tunisia), Kordjé Bedoumra (Chad), Cristina Duarte (Cape Verde), Samura Kamara (Sierra Leone), Thomas Sakala (Zimbabwe) and Birama Boubacar Sidibe (Mali). The election was decided by votes from African and non-African countries with a stake in the bank.
Both outgoing and incoming Presidents of Nigeria, both expressed their confidence in Adesina’s ability to deliver on the job. Adesina on his own part, had said if elected President of the AFDB, he would do all he can to combat hunger in Africa.
